Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Curtis Granderson doubled twice and drove in three runs, as New York beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 7-3, in the opener of a three-game series at Yankee Stadium. Brett Gardner hit an RBI triple and scored three runs for the Yankees, who have won seven games in a row to match a season-high set from July 3-9. New York rookie Ivan Nova did not figure in the decision after allowing three runs and six hits over 4 2/3 innings. Kerry Wood (3-4) earned the win in relief. Travis Snider went 2-for-5 with a solo home run for Toronto, which has dropped four of five. Brandon Morrow (10-7), who made his final start of the season, gave up five runs on six hits and three walks in just three innings. Morrow suffered his first loss since June 29 at Cleveland. He had gone 5-0 with a 3.88 earned run average over his previous nine outings. The Blue Jays are shutting down the former reliever because he has reached his innings limit for the season. Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Carl Crawford went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, as the Tampa Bay Rays beat Baltimore, 4-1, in the opener of a three-game series at Camden Yards. Evan Longoria, Ben Zobrist and Reid Brignac each knocked in a run for the Rays, who have won five of their last six games. Matt Garza (14-7) gave up a run on five hits and three walks over 5 2/3 innings. Tampa Bay remained 1 1/2 games behind first-place New York in the American League East standings. Orioles starter Kevin Millwood (3-15) yielded four runs on seven hits and walked five in 5 2/3 innings to take the loss.

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Friday's contest between the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox was rained out. The threat of Hurricane Earl heading toward Boston forced officials to make the early postponement and reschedule the contest for Saturday as part of a day-night doubleheader. The opener of the twinbill will be scheduled for 1:05 p.m. (et) with the regularly- scheduled nightcap still set for 7:10 p.m. (et).

Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Will Rhymes' two-run triple in the 11th highlighted the four-run inning, and the Detroit Tigers defeated the Kansas City Royals, 9-5, in the first of three games at Kauffman Stadium. Ryan Raburn added his ninth homer in 21 games and drove in two for the Tigers, who have won three of five. Raburn has been on a tear during the 21-game stretch, batting nearly .350 over his torrid streak. Ryan Perry (3-5) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief after Jeremy Bonderman allowed four runs, seven hits and five walks in a 7 1/3-inning start. Alex Gordon homered, while Yuniesky Betancourt drove in two runs for the Royals, who have lost five of seven. Zack Greinke had a no-hitter through 4 1/3 frames before faltering, giving up four runs, six hits and two walks while fanning only three in 6 1/3 frames. Jesse Chavez (2-3) took the loss after allowing four runs -- two earned -- in the 11th.

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - J.J. Hardy and Denard Span had run-scoring singles in the seventh inning to put Minnesota in front, and the Twins held on for a 4-3 win over the Texas Rangers in the opener of a three-game series. The battle between division leaders went to the Twins thanks to a solid start from Matt Fox, who made his major league debut and gave up two runs on four hits and a walk in 5 2/3 innings. Alex Burnett (2-2) took the win after giving up a run in 1 1/3 relief innings, while Matt Capps recorded the final five outs for his eighth save. Span finished with two hits for Minnesota, which expanded its lead in the AL Central to four games over the White Sox, who were rained out Friday in Boston. Texas starter Derek Holland (2-3) took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits and a walk in 6 1/3 innings. He also struck out five for the AL West-leading Rangers. Josh Hamilton had two hits for Texas but was taken out of the game in the eighth inning because of lower back stiffness, and is considered day-to-day.

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Cliff Pennington and Kevin Kouzmanoff each homered during a six-run seventh, as the Oakland Athletics dominated the Angels, 8-0, in the opener of a three-game series. Gio Gonzalez (13-8) tossed six scoreless innings for the Athletics, who snapped a four-game skid. The left-hander gave up four hits, struck out six, and walked three to pick up his third straight win. Scott Kazmir (8-13) went 5 2/3 frames in the start for Los Angeles, allowing two runs on two hits to fall to 1-8 over his last 10 starts. He walked a season-high six batters and fanned three for the Angels, who have lost eight of their last 11.

Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Luke French carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and Franklin Gutierrez drove in the only run as Seattle blanked Cleveland in a 1-0 final at Safeco Field. French (4-4) allowed just the one hit -- a Shelley Duncan single with one out in the seventh -- and produced a second straight winning turn on the hill, having pitched seven innings of three-hit ball his last time out in a 2-1 win against the Twins. The lefty struck out four and walked three Friday. Seattle had just four hits but Gutierrez's first-inning RBI single proved to be enough for the win, evening the four-game series at a game apiece and snapping a six-game home skid to the Tribe. Fausto Carmona (11-14) hurled his third complete game of the year and sixth of his career in the loss. The right-hander struck out six, walked five and allowed four hits along with the all-important run. He was backed by just three hits in the loss, Cleveland's fifth in six games.
